In fact, a three-day Mango Festival is going on in Siliguri, West Bengal from June 9. At this time the world's most expensive mango 'Miyazaki' was displayed. The price of this mango in the international market can be as high as Rs 2.75 lakh per kg. Buying two kilos of this variety of mangoes would cost so much money that a car could be bought.
Apparently, the 7th Mango Festival held in Siliguri started on the 9th of June. The event is being organized at a mall by the Modella Caretaker Center and School (MCCS) in association with the Association for Conservation and Tourism (ACT). More than 262 varieties of mangoes have been displayed at the festival.
Let us tell you that Miyazaki mangoes are produced in Miyazaki city of Japan. While mangoes are green or yellow in color, the peel of Miyazaki mangoes is red. The shape of these mangoes is exactly like dinosaur eggs. According to media reports, the weight of a Miyazaki mango should be at least 350 grams. The sugar content in it should be 15% or more.
Miyazaki mango cultivation requires long periods of bright sunlight, warm weather, and abundant rainfall. There is also a protective net around each mango so that the sunlight falls on it evenly and gives it a unique shape. Mango cultivation began in Miyazaki City in 1984. This mango is available from April to August. Most of the mangoes are sold between May and June. Miyazaki mango is also cultivated in Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, and India.
Significantly, Kohitur mango is the second most expensive mango after Miyazaki of Japan. It is cultivated only in Murshidabad, West Bengal. It is considered a very rare variety of gut. This variety of mango was created in the 18th century during the time of Siraj-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Bengal. The cost of one Kohitur mango is around 1500 rupees.
