Misuse of Sachin Tendulkar's photo and voice, criminal case registered in cyber cell

Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday filed a criminal case with the Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch. Sachin has filed an FIR against unknown people for promoting medicinal products without permission. It has been alleged that various types of fake advertisements are being circulated on the internet using his photograph. An officer of the Crime Branch has given information about this.

According to the report, unknown people have used Sachin's name, photo, and voice to advertise without his permission. The complaint states that Tendulkar had never given permission to the company to use his name and photographs and was tarnishing his image, so he directed his associate to take legal action.

An aide of Tendulkar lodged a complaint in this regard with the West Zone Cyber police station on Thursday, the official said. According to the FIR, on May 5, Tendulkar's personal assistant found an advertisement for an oil company on Facebook, which used Tendulkar's picture and wrote that the product was recommended by Tendulkar.

According to the complainant, similar advertisements were also found on Instagram. They also found a website, sachinhealth.in, which promoted these products using Tendulkar's photograph. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code besides the Information Technology Act, the official said, adding further investigation is underway.
